When you delete an email from your trash folder where does it go from there? CAn somebody ever find it?

I have heard that there are all of these privacy laws governing the right to privacy, but see people exposed all of the time. If an email is REALLY deleted or or the trach can is REALLY emptied, where does it go, and why are people able to go find private information? Very interested....

I don't know exactly where do they go, but the technology definitely exists to retrieve them. I only heard about pedophilia related stuff being looked for - or possibly some other illegal stuff. If you have done nothing illegal, you have no reason to worry. It is unlikely that your average computer user (e.g. your significant other) can find it. It is probably more complicated than that.
Reply:if you watched tv crime shows you would know that they can extract data from a single platter from a broken hard drive. you can overwrite data a thousand times but if they find bytes of data with something bad like porno they can reorganize the randomized bits into the configuration they were in and repair data.
Reply:Just because you delete it empty the trash does not mean it is gone. You just can not retrieve it unless you are a computer tech that really knows what they are doing. Why do you think the FBI, cops, etc... always takes the computers when really serious things happen. The info is always in the hard drive somewhere. So unless you are doing something really illegal I would not worry!!!
Reply:The file that is deleted from the Trash folder is also deleted from the server once for all


No idea where it actually goes but its immpossible to retrieve it

Reply:After a file is deleted from the trash, the space that it occupied is available to be overwritten by other files, but you can't be sure that it's really gone.
